Linenfold
Coffer is a reproduction of a wonderful small chest from the Tudor period
(mid sixteenth century). Its a fine example which incorporates the linenfold design in which
wood was carved to look like a fold of linen
fabric.
The
size of the chest made it convenient for transporting the personal
possessions of a nobleman, lady, or merchant on their frequent trips. The
interior tray would suggest use for writing instruments or other small
items. Its sturdy frame construction of 1¼" timber would give it the
strength and security for such a task. It could also double as a seat.
Constructed from oak, it has a hand rubbed oil finish.
