This hand carved, solid oak chair is a faithful
replica of the famous 15th century curule chair. It is both sturdy and
beautiful, offering comfortable seating and historic authenticity. It has
the ability to fold, as did the original, which was designed to be a
portable chair of high office.
The chair is hand carved with chisel and
wooden mallet in exactly the same way as the original chairs were made.
The arms and feet are cut from enormous 2¼" thick oak timbers; the 1¾"
thick legs are chamfered and further decorated with 72 distinctive
lamb’s tongue flourishes. The seat and back have been hand cut from rich
top grain genuine steer leather which has been carefully hand dyed and
polished.
